Technology Studies
Digital Multimeter Principles
Course Outline
Upon completion of this course you will be able to make measurements on voltages and currents in: DC circuits in the ranges 0 to 1000V and 0 to 200 mA. Respectively and voltages in: AC circuits in the range 0 to 750V as well as resistances in the range 1 Ohm to 1 megohm and interpret your readings in terms of Ohm's Law and the Power Formula. The course covers the use of an average responding DMM with no advanced features, in making and interpreting simple electrical measurements. Measurements of this nature are made daily, on the job, by electricians and electrical technicians. This is a single stream course.
Topics of study covered within this course include the following:
• Safety
• DMM Abbreviations, Symbols, and Terminology
• DMM Displays
• DMM Advanced Features
• Measuring AC Voltage
• Measuring DC Voltage
• Measuring Resistance and Continuity Testing
• Measuring AC and DC Current
• Ohm's Law and Power Formula
Duration
Approximately 20 hours
